The 1977 vintage in northern Italy was warm and structured, producing wines of firmness and classical balance rather than overt opulence. In Trentino, where Alpine influences temper the growing season, Cabernet has long been cultivated alongside indigenous varieties. Cantina Sociale di Isera, founded in the early 20th century, is recognised for its traditional approach and careful élevage, reflecting the cooperative’s emphasis on regional character and steady maturation. This bottle captures an era when Italian Cabernet was shaped by restraint, extended ageing and patience in the cellar.

Tasting Notes:
Now showing a deep brick-red core fading to garnet at the rim, the nose is fully evolved and nuanced. Aromas of dried blackcurrant, stewed plum and forest floor are interwoven with notes of leather, cedar and tobacco leaf. With air, hints of dried herbs, pencil shavings and a gentle earthy spice emerge. On the palate it is medium to full-bodied, with softened tannins and a savoury, mature profile. Flavours of dried dark fruits, balsamic tones and subtle oak spice unfold gradually, leading to a long, warming and harmonious finish.

Serving & Food Pairing:
Decant carefully to remove natural sediment and allow the wine time to open. Best served at cellar temperature. A fine partner to roast lamb, braised beef, venison or aged hard cheeses.
