Description
The 2019 Château Caronne Ste Gemme is a superb example of classic Haut-Médoc craftsmanship from an excellent vintage. Deep ruby in colour, it opens with attractive aromas of blackcurrant, dark cherry and plum, layered with subtle notes of cedar, graphite and a touch of dried herbs. The nose is fresh, precise and unmistakably Left Bank in style.
On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied yet confidently structured. A core of ripe cassis and blackberry is supported by fine, well-integrated tannins and lively acidity. There is an appealing balance between richness and restraint, with gentle hints of tobacco, cocoa and lightly toasted oak adding complexity without overwhelming the fruit.
As it develops, the 2019 shows increasing elegance, revealing savoury undertones of pencil lead, bay leaf and soft earthiness. The finish is long, clean and harmonious, with lingering dark fruit and mineral freshness—hallmarks of a well-made Médoc from a strong year.
An excellent value claret, the 2019 Caronne Ste Gemme is drinking beautifully now but will reward further ageing over the next 8–12 years. Versatile and food-friendly, it pairs well with roast lamb, beef, game dishes and mature hard cheeses. A reliably polished wine from a château that consistently over-delivers.
