  • Description

The 2005 Château Climens is a magnificent Barsac from one of the most successful Sauternes/Barsac vintages of the decade. The wine opens with an opulent yet refined bouquet of apricot, candied citrus, white peach and tropical fruit, interwoven with notes of acacia honey, vanilla bean and subtle saffron. The aromatics are rich, pure and deeply expressive—classic Climens at its most seductive.

On the palate, the 2005 is luxurious and beautifully balanced. Layers of ripe stone fruit, orange marmalade and crystallised pineapple are framed by vibrant acidity that keeps the wine energetic and precise. Silky in texture yet wonderfully fresh, it shows remarkable poise, with the sweetness carried effortlessly by Barsac’s hallmark minerality.

As it unfolds, deeper complexity emerges—notes of toasted almond, crème brûlée, chamomile and warm pastry join the fruit, adding depth and elegance. The wine’s superb balance of richness, brightness and concentration gives it both immediate appeal and long-term ageing potential. The finish is long, resonant and impeccably refined.

A truly exceptional Climens, the 2005 vintage sits among the estate’s finest modern releases. Drinking beautifully now but still with decades ahead of it, it is a perfect choice for special occasions, fine cheeses, fruit tarts, foie gras or simply savoured on its own as a world-class dessert wine.

Château Climens, classified as a Premier Cru Classé in 1855, is located in Barsac at the heart of the Sauternes region. The estate is dedicated entirely to Sémillon, producing wines renowned for their purity, elegance and ability to age. With a history dating back to the 16th century, Climens has consistently upheld a reputation for excellence, crafting some of the world’s most admired sweet wines that reflect both terroir and tradition.
