  • Description

Château Coufran 1994 is a fully mature Haut-Médoc classic, offering the charm and complexity that long-aged claret delivers so well. Known as the “Pomerol of the Médoc” due to its unusually high Merlot content, Coufran often shows a softer, rounder profile than many Left Bank wines, and the 1994 vintage has now developed beautifully in bottle.

On the nose, this wine displays mature aromas of dried plum, blackberry, cedar, leather and hints of earthy spice. There is a lovely autumnal character that reflects its age, with notes of tobacco leaf and forest floor adding depth and interest.

The palate is medium-bodied, gentle and well-resolved, with softened tannins and flavours of stewed dark fruits, savoury spice and subtle roasted notes. The wine’s maturity gives it a harmonious, easy-drinking profile while retaining enough structure to remain engaging throughout.

Food pairing: Ideal with roast lamb, beef casseroles, hard cheeses or mushroom-based dishes. This is a charming mature Bordeaux, drinking perfectly now.
