Description
1976 Doisy-Védrines
Overview:
A mature Sauternes from the historic Barsac appellation, the 1976 Doisy-Védrines reflects a warm, dry vintage that produced wines of generous richness, honeyed concentration and evolved complexity. Now fully mature, it offers a classical expression of aged botrytised Bordeaux with depth, softness and tertiary nuance.
Appearance:
Deep amber-gold with burnished copper tones, showing pronounced maturity and concentration consistent with long bottle ageing.
Nose:
Rich and evolved, opening with aromas of orange marmalade, dried apricot and acacia honey layered with notes of caramelised pineapple, saffron and toasted almond. With air, further complexity emerges through crème brûlée, beeswax, dried tropical fruits and gentle spice.
Palate:
Lush, rounded and fully mature, with a silky texture carrying flavours of apricot preserve, candied citrus peel and baked peach. The sweetness is broad and generous, balanced by Barsac’s natural acidity, which preserves freshness and lift. Secondary notes of honeycomb, vanilla and subtle botrytis spice add depth and complexity.
Finish:
Long, smooth and gently honeyed, fading through orange zest, dried apricot and soft caramel tones.
About the Estate:
Château Doisy-Védrines is a well-regarded classified growth in the Barsac appellation of Sauternes, known for producing refined, aromatic and long-lived sweet wines. The estate benefits from limestone-rich soils and a climate ideally suited to noble rot, yielding wines that combine richness with characteristic Barsac freshness and elegance.
