Description

A big wine matured in oak for 18-20 months, using new oak, more solid a structure than one normally expects from St. Julien. Full bodied, rich and plummy, with masses of fruit. Its spicy blackcurrant flavour is supported with a powerful structure of ripe tannins. 65% Cab. Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, 8% Cabernet franc & 4% Petit Verdot.

A fragrant nose that is fleshy and ripe with blackberry, cassis and wild hedgerow. It could do with perhaps a little more precision and clarity. The medium-bodied palate is much more harmonious and focused than the one shown in Bordeaux, supple in texture with rounded black fruits. Tight and linear on the finish with a touch of burnt toast, this is a very fine Gruaud Larose.
