  • Description

Château Langoa Barton 2006 is a classic, structured Saint-Julien from one of the Médoc’s most consistently reliable family-run estates. The 2006 vintage favoured properties with deep gravel soils and careful selection, and Langoa Barton produced a wine of notable precision and balance. Now approaching two decades of age, it has moved gracefully into its early maturity while retaining the backbone typical of the Barton style.

The bouquet is fragrant and refined, opening with cassis, blackberry and black cherry alongside cedar, pencil shavings and dried tobacco. Subtle notes of spice, graphite and damp earth give the wine an authentic Left Bank character. With time in the glass, the aromatics become broader and more expressive, revealing floral tones and a hint of warm baking spice.

On the palate, the 2006 is medium-bodied but firm, driven by ripe yet structured tannins and a refreshing acidity that adds lift. Flavours of dark berries, plum and savoury oak unfold across a well-defined frame, supported by the estate’s trademark minerality. The finish is long and poised, suggesting there is still further development to come.

Drinking beautifully now, but with another decade of life ahead, this is a superb example of traditional Saint-Julien craftsmanship. It is an excellent choice for lovers of classic claret and pairs seamlessly with roast beef, lamb, or hearty winter dishes. A confident, elegant wine from a château that continues to overdeliver in both quality and value.

Food Pairing: This wine pairs wonderfully with rich, hearty dishes. Ideal pairings include roasted lamb, beef Wellington, venison, or even a well-marbled ribeye steak. It also complements earthy flavors, like truffle risotto, mushrooms, and aged hard cheeses.

The 2009 Château Langoa Barton is a wine with incredible depth, richness, and elegance, offering a classic example of a well-made Saint-Julien from an outstanding vintage. If you’re enjoying it now, consider decanting it for a couple of hours to allow it to fully open up and express its complexity.
