Description
Tasting Notes
A deep garnet red with a subtle brick rim, the 1998 Lascombes opens with aromas of ripe cherry, cedar, cigar box, and dried herbs, layered with hints of spice and bramble. On the palate, it is medium-bodied with silky tannins, showing flavours of redcurrant, liquorice, and earthy undertones. The finish is elegant and lingering, emphasising finesse over power. Perfect for enjoying now, though it will hold gracefully for several more years.
Serving and Food Pairing
Serve at 16–18°C after gentle decanting. Ideal with roast lamb, beef fillet, or duck breast. It also pairs beautifully with mushroom risotto, truffle dishes, or a mature hard cheese such as Comté or aged Manchego.
Winemaking
Château Lascombes follows traditional Bordeaux vinification. Grapes are carefully hand-picked and fermented in stainless steel vats before undergoing extended maceration to extract colour and tannin. The wine is then aged in French oak barrels, a portion of which are new, to impart subtle spice and structure. After bottling, decades of cellaring bring added harmony and tertiary character.
Château Lascombes has a history dating back to the 17th century and is classified as a 2ème Grand Cru Classé in the 1855 Médoc Classification. Located in the heart of Margaux, its vineyards benefit from gravelly soils and an ideal microclimate, producing wines renowned for their depth, structure, and elegance.
