Description

The 1993 Château Mouton Rothschild is a vintage with elegance and refinement, though it faced some challenges due to a cooler and wetter growing season. This First Growth Pauillac is known for its meticulous craftsmanship, and the 1993 vintage reflects the estate’s dedication to quality even in less-than-ideal conditions.

This vintage has a medium garnet color with inviting aromas of red currants, blackberries, and cassis, layered with hints of cedar, tobacco, and subtle spice. On the palate, it presents a refined structure with fine-grained tannins, medium body, and a balanced acidity that offers freshness. While the concentration may not reach the heights of top vintages, it’s nonetheless elegant, showcasing notes of red and dark berries, earthy undertones, and a touch of graphite.

The 1993 Mouton Rothschild is drinking well now, providing a graceful, classic Bordeaux experience with the finesse that Mouton is known for. It pairs wonderfully with roasted meats, lamb, and hard cheeses. This vintage also features a label designed by the artist Balthus, adding a unique artistic touch to each bottle.

Reviews

*** 90 Points - Robert Parker ***
Reviews: " The 1993 is a beautifully made wine which could be considered a sleeper of the vintage. The wine boasts a dark purple color, followed by a sweet, pain grillee, roasted nut, and cassis-scented bouquet that is just beginning to open. In the mouth, the wine may not possess the body and volume of a vintage such as 1990 or 1989, but there is more richness of fruit, a sweet, ripe, pureness to the wine, as well as medium body and outstanding balance. This moderately tannic, well-focused, surprisingly rich 1993 is capable of 15-20 years of evolution. Anticipated maturity: 2004-2015."Robert Parker, Wine Advocate 1997
