Description

The 1995 vintage of Château Troplong Mondot is a compelling expression of Right Bank power and concentration from a structured, long-lived year. Situated on one of the highest points in Saint-Émilion, Troplong Mondot’s clay-limestone soils and Merlot-dominant blend often yield richly textured, muscular wines, and the 1995 is no exception. It captures the estate’s bold style with impressive poise and ageing potential.

Now approaching 30 years of age, the wine has developed a complex bouquet of ripe blackberries, dark plum, and macerated cherries, layered with tobacco leaf, cocoa, sweet spices, and hints of iron and earth. The tertiary character is well-integrated, with aromatic notes of cedarwood, forest floor, and leather enhancing its mature depth.

On the palate, this vintage remains robust and full-bodied, with chewy but resolved tannins and a broad, structured frame. The dark fruit core remains vivid, accented by espresso, dried herbs, and a slightly meaty richness. There’s a notable mineral tension and freshness beneath the richness, reflecting both terroir and vintage. The finish is long, savoury, and slightly spicy, confirming its pedigree and cellaring strength.

The 1995 Troplong Mondot is drinking well now but will continue to evolve gracefully through the early 2030s. Decanting for 1–2 hours is recommended to allow full aromatic expression.
