Description
Château d’Armailhac 1998 – Pauillac 5ème Cru Classé
The 1998 vintage in Bordeaux is particularly noted for its ripe Merlot-driven charm and supple texture on the Left Bank, and Château d’Armailhac presents a beautifully balanced and expressive Pauillac.
In the glass, it shows a deep garnet colour with gentle brick hues at the rim. The nose is generous and inviting, with aromas of blackcurrant, plum and ripe red berries, layered with notes of cedar, tobacco leaf, cocoa and subtle spice.
On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, with rounded tannins and a smooth, harmonious structure. Flavours of cassis, dark cherry and plum are supported by savoury undertones of liquorice, earth and polished oak. The finish is long, warm and gently persistent.
Food pairing: This wine pairs beautifully with roast lamb, beef fillet, duck, pork belly and mushroom-based dishes. It also works very well with mature hard cheeses such as Comté, aged Cheddar and Beaufort.
Château d’Armailhac 1998 is drinking well now, offering ripe fruit, soft structure and classic Pauillac character in a generous, approachable style.
