Description
The 1996 Château du Mayne Sauternes is a graceful, fully mature sweet wine from the heart of Sauternes, offering honeyed richness balanced by fresh acidity. A delicious choice for lovers of classic botrytised whites. Drink now and over the coming years.
Tasting Notes:
Deep golden hue with amber glints. Aromas of apricot and quince paste, Seville orange marmalade, acacia honey and saffron, with hints of crème brûlée, toasted almond and candied ginger. The palate is silky and glycerolic yet poised, layering dried apricot, citrus peel, honey and vanilla spice over a bright, cleansing acidity. Long, elegant finish with echoes of caramelised citrus and almond brittle.
Serving Tips & Storage Serve well chilled at 8–10 °C. Decant only if a light deposit is present. Superb with foie gras, blue cheeses (Roquefort, Stilton, Gorgonzola), fruit tarts, crème brûlée, or spicy-savoury dishes like Thai prawn curry. Once opened, keep well stoppered in the fridge and enjoy over 3–5 days. Store unopened bottles on their side in a cool, dark place away from heat and vibration.
About Château du Mayne
A traditional Sauternes estate working chiefly with Sémillon supported by Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle. Hand-picked in successive passes to capture noble rot concentration, then matured in oak, the wines combine honeyed depth with the region’s hallmark freshness and spice.
