Description
Château L’Évangile, 1996
Pomerol, Bordeaux
The 1996 vintage in Bordeaux is celebrated particularly on the Left Bank, but the best estates in Pomerol also produced wines of depth, balance and longevity. A warm summer followed by a dry harvest allowed the Merlot and Cabernet Franc grapes to ripen fully, creating wines with excellent structure and impressive ageing potential.
Château L’Évangile 1996 is a refined and expressive example of this distinguished Pomerol estate. With extended bottle age, the wine reveals a complex bouquet of ripe plum, black cherry and cassis, intertwined with notes of truffle, cedar, tobacco and subtle spice. On the palate it is rich and velvety, with layers of dark fruit supported by silky tannins and a beautifully integrated structure.
Now fully mature, the wine shows the elegance and complexity that develops with time in great Pomerol. Flavours of plum, chocolate, leather and earthy undertones lead to a long, harmonious finish.
A superb choice for celebrating a 1996 birthday or anniversary, and an excellent partner to roast duck, beef dishes or fine cheeses. Decant gently to remove sediment and allow the wine to open before serving.
About Chateau l'Evangile Chateau l'Evangile is located on the plateau in the commune of Pomerol. It is between Chateau Petrus and Chateau Cheval Blanc. This wine is fully mature, quite round, fruity, soft, elegant, and charming with L'Evangile's telltale violet, raspberry-like bouquet, this medium-bodied, velvety wine.
