Description
Château L’Évangile, 1999
Pomerol, Bordeaux
The 1999 vintage in Bordeaux followed the highly regarded 1998 harvest and produced a number of elegant, approachable wines. In Pomerol, favourable late-season conditions allowed the Merlot grapes to ripen well, resulting in wines that combine supple fruit with early accessibility.
Château L’Évangile 1999 reflects the estate’s refined style. The bouquet shows aromas of ripe plum, black cherry and blackberry, complemented by notes of cedar, mocha and gentle spice developed through bottle ageing. On the palate the wine is smooth and velvety, with soft tannins supporting flavours of dark fruit, cocoa and subtle earthy undertones.
Now well into its drinking window, the wine offers mature complexity while retaining attractive fruit character. The finish is balanced and elegant, making it a particularly enjoyable bottle to open and savour today.
A wonderful choice for celebrating a 1999 birthday or anniversary, and an excellent partner to roast duck, beef dishes or mature cheeses. Decant gently to remove sediment and allow the wine to open before serving.
About Chateau l'Evangile Chateau l'Evangile is located on the plateau in the commune of Pomerol. It is between Chateau Petrus and Chateau Cheval Blanc. This wine is fully mature, quite round, fruity, soft, elegant, and charming with L'Evangile's telltale violet, raspberry-like bouquet, this medium-bodied, velvety wine.
