Description
1999 Château L’Évangile
Overview:
A beautifully mature expression of traditional Pomerol, the 1999 Château L’Évangile reflects the elegance and accessibility of this understated Bordeaux vintage. Benefiting from favourable late-season conditions, the Merlot achieved excellent ripeness, resulting in a wine that now combines mature tertiary complexity with supple fruit and velvety texture. Fully within its drinking window, it offers the charm, refinement and quiet depth that define mature Right Bank Bordeaux.
Appearance:
Deep garnet with subtle brick evolution at the rim, showing graceful maturity and excellent development in bottle.
Nose:
Expressive and beautifully evolved, revealing aromas of ripe plum, black cherry and blackberry layered with cedarwood, mocha and gentle spice. With aeration, further nuances of violet, tobacco leaf, cocoa and earthy truffle character emerge, adding depth and sophistication.
Palate:
Smooth, velvety and harmonious, with softened tannins supporting flavours of dark berry fruits, plum and black cherry alongside notes of cocoa, cedar and subtle earthy undertones. The wine retains freshness and balance, while the mature tertiary complexity adds elegance and refinement without overwhelming the remaining fruit.
Finish:
Long, polished and graceful, lingering through dark fruits, soft spice, cocoa and delicate savoury nuance.
Decanting:
Decant gently to remove sediment and allow the wine to open slowly before serving at 16–18°C.
About the Estate:
Château L’Évangile is one of Pomerol’s most revered estates, situated on the plateau between Château Pétrus and Château Cheval Blanc. Renowned for wines of richness, perfume and velvety texture, the estate has long been celebrated for producing refined and age-worthy Merlot-dominant Bordeaux with exceptional elegance and complexity.
