Description

The 1989 Château Mont-Redon Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a magnificent example of mature Southern Rhône from one of the appellation's most respected estates. Produced during an outstanding vintage, this wine has benefited from decades of bottle ageing, developing remarkable complexity while retaining the richness and structure that have made Châteauneuf-du-Pape one of France's most celebrated wine regions. Mature bottles from this era are increasingly rare and highly sought after by collectors and Rhône enthusiasts alike.

Château Mont-Redon is one of the largest and most historic estates in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, with a winemaking heritage dating back to the nineteenth century. The estate's vineyards are planted across the appellation's famous galets roulés, large rounded stones that help regulate temperature and contribute to the concentration and character of the wines. Renowned for producing age-worthy Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Mont-Redon combines tradition, terroir and meticulous vineyard management to create wines of exceptional depth and longevity.

The bouquet is beautifully mature, revealing aromas of dried blackberries, figs and dark cherries intertwined with notes of leather, tobacco and Provençal herbs. With aeration, further layers of dried flowers, woodland spice, truffle and game emerge, creating a wonderfully complex and evocative aromatic profile that reflects both the vintage and its extended bottle age.

On the palate, the wine is rich, harmonious and fully evolved. Flavours of dried dark fruits, spice and savoury herbs are supported by silky tannins and impressive freshness. Notes of leather, earth and garrigue add further complexity, while the wine's mature texture provides a seamless and elegant drinking experience. The finish is long, warming and persistent, leaving lingering impressions of spice, dried fruit and Mediterranean herbs.

Now fully mature, the 1989 Château Mont-Redon Châteauneuf-du-Pape is drinking beautifully and should be enjoyed over the coming years. Decant gently to remove any sediment and serve alongside roast lamb, game dishes, slow-cooked beef or mature cheeses. A superb mature Rhône that captures the richness, complexity and timeless appeal of traditional Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
