Description
2001 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes – Tardieu-Laurent
A beautifully mature example from Tardieu-Laurent, crafted from old vines and now showing the full complexity that the 2001 vintage has to offer.
Tasting Note
An elegant and fully evolved nose of dried cherry, fig and plum, layered with notes of leather, tobacco and wild herbs. On the palate, the wine is smooth and harmonious, with softened tannins and a silky texture. Flavours of stewed red fruits, spice and earthy nuances unfold with balance, leading to a long, savoury finish with lingering warmth and gentle rustic character.
Vintage & Vineyard
The 2001 vintage in Châteauneuf-du-Pape is regarded as a classic, well-balanced year, producing wines with excellent structure and ageing potential rather than sheer power. Sourced from old-vine parcels across the appellation, the “Vieilles Vignes” designation reflects low-yielding vines rooted in the region’s famed galets roulés and sandy soils, contributing concentration, depth and a distinctive savoury complexity that has evolved beautifully over time.
Serving
Serve at 16–17°C. Decant for up to one hour to allow the wine to fully open and express its aromatic complexity.
Summary
A classic, old-vine Châteauneuf-du-Pape now at full maturity, offering depth, elegance and savoury complexity. A superb choice for a 2001 anniversary or special occasion.
