  • Description

2013 Alain Jaume ‘Le Miocène’ Châteauneuf-du-Pape in magnum format is a superb showcase of traditional southern Rhône winemaking. Named after the Miocene epoch, when the region’s ancient soils were formed, this wine comes from old vines rooted in the galet-strewn vineyards of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Crafted primarily from Grenache, with supporting Syrah and Mourvèdre, it reflects both the complexity of terroir and the Jaume family’s deep experience in Rhône viticulture.

The 2013 vintage offers a medium-bodied, elegant style. In the glass, it reveals a deep ruby colour with a slightly bricked rim, hinting at graceful evolution. Aromas of garrigue, dried cherry, black olive, cracked pepper, and forest floor emerge with aeration. The palate is smooth and layered, with notes of red plum, black tea, smoked herbs, and savoury spice. Fine-grained tannins and a mineral-laced finish give the wine lift and balance.

While 2013 was a cooler, later-ripening year in the southern Rhône, careful vineyard work and selection at Domaine Alain Jaume ensured a wine of purity and finesse. Now over a decade old, this magnum is entering an excellent drinking window, where tertiary notes are developing but the core fruit remains alive and expressive. The magnum format further enhances its ageing potential, preserving freshness and structure.

Ideal for special gatherings or ageing further in the cellar, this 1.5L bottle of 2013 Le Miocène pairs beautifully with roast lamb, duck confit, or wild mushroom dishes. The magnum format not only enhances presentation but also slows the wine’s evolution, making it an exceptional gift or centrepiece for Rhône wine lovers.
