Description

The Chianti DOC 1966 Ruffino Riserva Ducale is a historic red wine from Tuscany, produced in the area of Chianti. Crafted primarily from Sangiovese-based blends typical of the era, it reflects the traditional style of Chianti in the 1960s, when wines were structured, high-acid, and designed for long bottle aging rather than immediate fruit expression.

Tasting notes:

The 1966 vintage is now fully mature, showing deep tertiary development. The nose opens with aromas of dried sour cherry, plum skin, leather, tobacco, dried violet, and forest floor. With aeration, more complex notes emerge, including earth, sweet spice, dried herbs, and balsamic undertones.

On the palate it is elegant and fully evolved, with softened tannins and a still-vibrant acidity that defines its structure. The fruit has shifted into dried and savory tones, accompanied by earthy, slightly savory and mineral sensations. The finish is long, graceful, and delicately rustic, typical of well-aged classic Chianti.

Serving & food pairing:

Best served at 16–18°C, with gentle handling and minimal or no decanting.

It pairs well with:

Roasted and braised red meats
Wild game and stews
Tomato-based pasta dishes
Mushroom risotto
Aged pecorino and hard cheeses
Producer:

Ruffino is one of Tuscany’s historic wineries, founded in the 19th century and widely recognized for producing traditional Chianti wines. The Riserva Ducale label represents one of its most classic expressions, historically associated with structured, age-worthy Chianti made in a traditional style.
