Description

1984 Chianti – San Felice (Tuscany, Italy)

A fully mature, classical Chianti that favours perfume and savoury finesse. Brick-garnet with a tawny rim, it opens on dried cherry and amarena, rose petal, cedar and sweet tobacco, with hints of orange peel, tea leaf and a gentle balsamic/underbrush note. Mid-weight and silken on the palate: lively, old-school acidity carries red-cherry fruit, dried herbs and subtle leather; tannins are fine and resolved, the finish tapering with cherry skin, cedar spice and dried flowers.

Producer note: Based in Castelnuovo Berardenga, San Felice is a historic Chianti Classico estate (also known for Poggio Rosso and Vigorello) whose traditional Sangiovese emphasises aromatic lift, poise and age-worthy elegance.

Serve: 16–18 °C. Stand upright 12–24 hours; very gentle decant for sediment just before pouring.
Food pairing: Roast chicken with herbs, pappardelle al ragù, porcini risotto, pecorino stagionato.
