    Cockburn’s, 1960
    Vintage Port

    Summary

Cockburn’s 1960 Vintage Port is a rare mature Port from one of the Douro’s most historic producers. Bottled during a period when declarations were more selective, the wine represents a traditional style of Vintage Port that has benefited from many decades of bottle ageing. Today it offers a beautifully evolved and elegant expression of mature Port.

    Tasting Notes

The wine displays a deep garnet colour with a soft tawny edge, a natural sign of its long maturation in bottle. The nose is complex and fully developed, revealing aromas of dried cherries, figs and raisins layered with notes of walnut, cedarwood, leather and sweet spice. Hints of cocoa and orange peel add further aromatic depth.

On the palate it is smooth and mellow, with flavours of mature red fruits, dried plum and toasted almonds complemented by subtle notes of dark chocolate and spice. The tannins have softened over time, giving the wine a silky, harmonious texture. The finish is long and elegant, with lingering notes of dried fruit, nutty richness and gentle spice.

    Vintage Overview

The 1960 vintage in the Douro produced wines of good ripeness and balance. Although not widely declared as a classic Vintage year, several producers—including Cockburn’s—bottled small quantities of Vintage Port. Over time these wines have matured gracefully and today provide a fascinating example of traditional Port from the early 1960s.

    Serving Suggestions

Serve at 16–18°C and decant carefully before serving to remove the natural sediment formed during long bottle ageing. It pairs beautifully with blue cheeses such as Stilton, dark chocolate desserts, or can also be enjoyed on its own after dinner.

    Cellaring

Fully mature and ready to drink now. Once opened, it should ideally be enjoyed within 1–2 days.

    Condition

    Level in neck, good label
