Description
The 2000 Cockburn Vintage Port is a powerful yet classically structured expression of the house style, showing the depth and longevity that defined this outstanding Douro vintage. In the glass it reveals a deep, opaque ruby core with the first hints of garnet at the rim, signalling its graceful evolution over more than two decades.
The nose opens with dark, brooding fruits—black cherry, plum compote and crushed blackberry—layered with notes of liquorice, cocoa, cedar spice and dried herbs. There is a subtle smoky minerality beneath, giving the wine lift and definition. With time in the glass, more savoury nuances emerge: leather, walnut shell and a touch of eucalyptus.
On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, polished and impressively structured. The fruit remains vibrant and sweet-edged, wrapped around firm but refined tannins that have mellowed beautifully with age. Rich blackberry, fig and dark chocolate flow into more complex flavours of spice and dried fruits, all carried by Cockburn’s trademark freshness. The finish is long, warming and finely balanced.
Drinking beautifully now, but with the structure to continue developing over the next decade. A superb bottle for gifting, celebrations, or pairing with strong cheeses, nut-based desserts, or simply enjoyed contemplatively after a meal. A distinguished and generous Vintage Port from a landmark year.

Reviews
95 Points - Robert Parker
The Wine Advocate - "Potentially one of the most compelling wines of the vintage, this inky black/purple-colored 2000 exhibits notes of scorched earth, melted asphalt, blackberry liqueur, and a pungent, penetrating intensity that reverberates in the mouth as well as the head. Full-bodied, massive, and concentrated, with a 45-second finish, this thrilling effort should drink well between 2010-2035."
