Description
The 2000 vintage of Crozes-Hermitage, made from Syrah in the northern Rhône, offers a mature and evolving profile that reflects both its terroir and age.
Appearance:
Medium garnet core with a slightly bricking rim, indicative of two decades of bottle age.
Nose:
Aromas of dried blackberries, roasted plum, and black olives give way to more tertiary notes of leather, tobacco leaf, dried herbs (particularly thyme and bay), and a touch of smoky bacon fat – classic for mature Syrah from this region.
Palate:
Still balanced with soft, integrated tannins and moderate acidity. Flavours echo the nose with stewed dark fruits, earthy undertones, and savoury spice. There’s a hint of cracked pepper, game, and faint cedar on the long, dry finish. While the fruit is fading, the wine retains charm through its complex savoury development.
Food Pairing:
Best with rustic fare – think slow-cooked lamb, duck confit, wild mushroom risotto, or even a firm aged cheese like Comté or Tomme de Savoie.
