Description
1975 Donnaz, Caves Coopératives de Donnaz
Valle d’Aosta, Italy
The 1975 Donnaz from the Caves Coopératives de Donnaz is a rare and beautifully preserved example of alpine Nebbiolo — locally known as Picotendro — from Italy’s smallest and most mountainous wine region. Founded in 1957, the cooperative united a group of high-altitude growers committed to preserving the traditional character of Donnas wines, which balance finesse, minerality, and longevity.
In the glass, it displays a pale garnet hue with amber highlights, reflecting its age and alpine origin. The bouquet is refined and ethereal, opening with dried cherry, mountain herbs, cedar, and rose petals, followed by subtle hints of tobacco leaf, truffle, and wet stone.
On the palate, it is graceful and finely textured, with silky tannins and bright acidity typical of the region’s cooler climate. Flavours of dried red fruit, spice, and herbal earthiness unfold slowly, leading to a delicate, mineral-driven finish that lingers with quiet persistence.
Serving & Pairing:
Serve at 17°C after a gentle decant of 30 minutes. Ideal with roast game, wild mushroom dishes, or alpine cheeses, where its freshness and savoury complexity shine.
Drink now. A beautifully evolved mountain Nebbiolo from the Valle d’Aosta, offering an authentic and timeless expression of one of Italy’s most distinctive wine traditions.
