Dow’s 2024 Vintage Port
A Classic and Structured Vintage from One of the Douro’s Great Estates
After seven years, Dow’s returns with a classic Vintage Port declaration that perfectly captures the house’s legendary style of power, structure, and restraint. Produced primarily from the renowned Quinta do Bomfim and Quinta da Senhora da Ribeira estates, the 2024 vintage combines immense concentration, firm structure, and remarkable freshness with the distinctive dry finish that has defined Dow’s for generations.
Deep opaque purple-black in colour, the nose is brooding and intensely aromatic, revealing layers of blackcurrant, blackberry, plum, and dark woodland fruit alongside notes of bitter chocolate, powdered schist, liquorice, and black pepper. Subtle floral and herbal nuances emerge beneath the wine’s dark fruit profile, adding further complexity and elegance.
On the palate, the wine is compact, tightly structured, and beautifully focused, with concentrated black fruit flavours framed by Dow’s hallmark peppery tannins and vibrant acidity. Despite its considerable power and depth, the wine maintains exceptional purity and balance, with a firm mineral backbone leading to a long, persistent, and characteristically drier finish. The combination of muscular structure and freshness gives the 2024 Dow’s remarkable ageing potential while already displaying impressive precision and definition in youth.
The 2024 growing season delivered balanced conditions and gradual ripening, allowing the vineyards to achieve excellent phenolic maturity while preserving freshness and aromatic clarity. Cool nights during September contributed to steady, even ripening, while traditional foot treading in granite lagares enhanced the wine’s texture, complexity, and structural definition.

Reviews
From Quinta do Bomfim and Quinta da Sra. da Ribeira in the Douro Superior, a blend of 40% Touriga Franca, 35% Touriga Nacional, 15% Vinha Velha and 10% Alicante Bouschet: if anything, deeper in colour than Warre above; gloriously ripe on the nose and expressive already with a nicely lifted touch of hedgerow fruit giving off a lovely perfume; suave and smooth initially, especially for Dow, with peppery tannic grip rising in the mouth, long and linear, tight knit and dry in style as befits Dow (3.4 baumé) but in no way overpowering on the finish with beautiful definition. Certain to be a classic. 5,535 cases. 19 - Richard Mayson

The 2024 Vintage Port follows the previous declaration of 2017. It was produced with grapes from Quinta do Bomfim in the Cima Corgo and Quinta da Senhora da Ribeira in the Douro Superior. The blend is 40% Touriga Franca, 35% Touriga Nacional, 15% field blend (vinhas velhas) and 10% Alicante Bouschet. It fermented in lagar and matured in oak casks. It’s linear and structured, with some graphite, lots of resinous rockrose, hints of chocolate (classic Dow’s) and is slightly dry and peppery, with a textbook note of violets. Dow’s are typically brooding, not up front and quite long. It has a lot of grip. It comes in at 20% alcohol, with a pH of 3.65 and 99 grams of sugar, which makes this one of their driest vintages, with Cockburn’s, making it long and vinous. I think this is great wine. 66,420 bottles produced. [Luis Gutierrez, 16/04/2026]
