Dow’s 2024 Vintage Port
A Classic and Structured Vintage from One of the Douro’s Great Estates
After seven years, Dow’s returns with a classic Vintage Port declaration that perfectly captures the house’s legendary style of power, structure, and restraint. Produced primarily from the renowned Quinta do Bomfim and Quinta da Senhora da Ribeira estates, the 2024 vintage combines immense concentration, firm structure, and remarkable freshness with the distinctive dry finish that has defined Dow’s for generations.
Deep opaque purple-black in colour, the nose is brooding and intensely aromatic, revealing layers of blackcurrant, blackberry, plum, and dark woodland fruit alongside notes of bitter chocolate, powdered schist, liquorice, and black pepper. Subtle floral and herbal nuances emerge beneath the wine’s dark fruit profile, adding further complexity and elegance.
On the palate, the wine is compact, tightly structured, and beautifully focused, with concentrated black fruit flavours framed by Dow’s hallmark peppery tannins and vibrant acidity. Despite its considerable power and depth, the wine maintains exceptional purity and balance, with a firm mineral backbone leading to a long, persistent, and characteristically drier finish. The combination of muscular structure and freshness gives the 2024 Dow’s remarkable ageing potential while already displaying impressive precision and definition in youth.
The 2024 growing season delivered balanced conditions and gradual ripening, allowing the vineyards to achieve excellent phenolic maturity while preserving freshness and aromatic clarity. Cool nights during September contributed to steady, even ripening, while traditional foot treading in granite lagares enhanced the wine’s texture, complexity, and structural definition.
