The Freisa 1966 Marchesi di Barolo is a rare historic red wine from the Langhe region in Piedmont, produced by Marchesi di Barolo. Made from Freisa grapes, it reflects a traditional Piedmontese style that in the 1960s was often vinified in a rustic yet age-worthy manner, with notable structure and aromatic depth.

Tasting notes:

The 1966 vintage is now fully mature and deeply tertiary in profile. The nose opens with aromas of dried cherry, redcurrant, rose petals, leather, tobacco leaf, and forest floor. With aeration, additional layers of dried herbs, spice, earthy notes, and faint balsamic nuances emerge.

On the palate it is soft, evolved, and delicately structured, with tannins now fully resolved and acidity still providing a gentle backbone. The fruit has shifted into savory, dried-fruit, and slightly earthy expressions, with subtle spice and herbal complexity. The finish is moderate in length, refined, and gently rustic, typical of well-aged Freisa.

Best served at 16–18°C, with careful handling and minimal decanting.
