Description

The Grignolino d’Asti 1966 Luigi Bosca is a rare historic red wine from the Monferrato area in Piedmont, Italy. Produced from Grignolino grapes, it reflects the traditional style of mid-20th-century Piedmontese winemaking: light in body, highly aromatic, and naturally high in acidity, with surprising ability to evolve when well stored over decades.

Tasting notes:

The 1966 vintage is now fully mature and deeply tertiary. The nose opens with aromas of dried red cherry, raspberry, rose petals, dried herbs, tea leaf, leather, and forest floor. With aeration, more delicate nuances of spice, earthy tones, faded violet, and balsamic hints may appear.

On the palate it is light-bodied, elegant, and fully evolved, with soft tannins and still-present acidity giving shape and balance. The fruit has transformed into savory, dry, and slightly herbal expressions, supported by subtle earthy and spicy complexity. The finish is fine, delicate, and moderately persistent, typical of aged Grignolino wines.

Serving & food pairing:

Best served at 15–17°C, with very gentle handling and minimal decanting.

It pairs well with:

Light roasted meats
Veal dishes
Mushroom-based recipes
Aged but mild cheeses
Traditional Piedmontese cuisine
Producer:

Luigi Bosca is associated with historic Piedmontese wine production and traditional bottlings from the Monferrato and Asti areas. Wines of this type reflect the regional heritage of Grignolino, a grape historically valued for its delicate structure, aromatic profile, and distinctive lightly tannic style.
