Description
The 1966 Freisa by Marchesi di Barolo is a rare, traditional Piedmontese red wine made from the native Freisa grape, a variety historically valued for its aromatic profile and slightly rustic character, especially in older styles from the Langhe.
Tasting Notes: Now fully mature, it likely shows delicate aromas of dried red berries, sour cherry, and rose petals, with tertiary notes of leather, dried herbs, earthy undertones, and faint spice. On the palate it is expected to be light to medium in body, with softened tannins, gentle acidity, and a fragile, fading finish typical of very old Piedmont reds.
Serving & Food Pairing: Best served at 14–16°C, ideally with minimal decanting to avoid disturbing sediment. It pairs well with simple traditional dishes such as cured meats, roasted poultry, light pasta dishes, and mild cheeses.
Producer: Marchesi di Barolo is a historic estate in Barolo, known for its long-standing role in producing classic Piedmontese wines and helping preserve traditional grape varieties like Freisa alongside Nebbiolo.
