Description

Gigondas 1998, Perrin Frères
A beautifully mature Southern Rhône red, now fully evolved and offering the rich, savoury complexity that comes with extended bottle age. The colour has softened to a deep garnet with brick tones at the rim, reflecting its maturity.
The nose is warm and expressive, with aromas of dried red and black fruits — fig, prune and cherry — layered with notes of leather, spice and garrigue. Hints of dried herbs, pepper, and a touch of earthy sweetness add further depth and character.
On the palate, the wine is smooth and rounded, with fully integrated tannins and a generous, medium to full-bodied structure. Flavours of stewed plum, blackberry, and dried fruits are supported by savoury notes of spice, tobacco and herbs, typical of a well-aged Gigondas. Despite its age, there is still enough freshness to keep the wine balanced and engaging.
The finish is long and warming, with lingering notes of spice, dried fruit and a subtle earthy complexity.
Serving: Best served at 16–18°C and allowed to breathe for 30 minutes before drinking. A gentle decant is recommended to remove any sediment. Ideal with roasted lamb, game, or rich Mediterranean dishes.
Summary: A classic, mature Gigondas offering depth, warmth and savoury Rhône character. Drinking well now, this is a rewarding wine for those who enjoy fully developed, traditional styles.
