Description
This 1988 Grignolino has developed the delicate and intriguing complexity that comes with long bottle age. The bouquet opens with notes of dried strawberry, rose petal, and orange peel, layered with subtle hints of spice, leather, and tea leaf. On the palate it is light to medium-bodied, with soft, resolved tannins and a gentle, earthy savouriness. The flavours of dried red fruit and spice are elegant and understated, leading to a graceful, lingering finish that captures the charm of mature Piedmontese wines.
Serving Suggestions
For optimal enjoyment, stand the bottle upright for 24–48 hours before serving to allow any sediment to settle. Carefully decant the wine to separate it from the sediment. Serve at 16–17 °C (60–63 °F) after decanting for 30–40 minutes to allow the aromas to fully open. Pairs well with cured meats, roasted poultry, mushroom-based dishes, or aged cheeses such as Castelmagno or Parmigiano Reggiano.
Note
For wines of this age, the cork may crumble when opening—this is normal and does not affect the quality of the wine. As with many mature wines, individual bottles may show some variation, reflecting their unique ageing journey. The evolved, savoury character of older wines may not appeal to every palate, but for those who appreciate the grace of time, it offers real depth and authenticity.
