Description
1975 I Piani, Sella & Mosca
Sardinia, Italy
The 1975 I Piani from Sella & Mosca is a fascinating expression of mid-century Sardinian winemaking from one of the island’s most respected estates. Founded in the late 19th century near Alghero, Sella & Mosca became renowned for producing structured, age-worthy reds that bridge Mediterranean warmth with classical European restraint.
In the glass, it shows a deep amber-garnet hue with brick reflections, a testament to its long and graceful evolution. The bouquet is complex and inviting, offering notes of dried cherry, fig, cedar, and Mediterranean herbs, followed by delicate hints of leather, spice, and tobacco leaf.
On the palate, the wine is mellow and harmonious, the fruit now beautifully integrated with earthy, savoury undertones. Flavours of dried plum, warm spice, and sun-baked earth are lifted by gentle acidity, leading to a lingering, softly spiced finish.
Serving & Pairing:
Serve at 17–18°C after a brief decant to awaken its tertiary aromas. Ideal with roast lamb, grilled vegetables, or mature Sardinian pecorino, which echo the wine’s rustic elegance and island character.
Drink now. A graceful and nostalgic Sardinian red that reflects both the craftsmanship of Sella & Mosca and the enduring charm of the 1975 vintage.
