Description
` Kopke 1961 Colheita Port
One of just 18 bottles released worldwide in 2026 – entirely secured by us
The 1961 Kopke Colheita is an extraordinarily rare single-harvest Port, drawn from casks that have matured for over six decades in the lodges of one of the Douro’s most historic houses.
In 2026, just 18 bottles were selected for release worldwide. We have secured the entire allocation.
This is not simply a rare wine — it is a vanishing fragment of the Douro’s past, preserved in wood for more than half a century and now bottled at its peak. Opportunities to acquire wines of this age, provenance and scarcity — particularly from Kopke — are exceptionally limited, and rarely repeated.
A Study in Long Cask Ageing
Unlike Vintage Port, which evolves in bottle, Colheita Ports such as this develop slowly in seasoned oak, gaining complexity, finesse and precision over decades. The extended ageing of the 1961 has resulted in a wine of remarkable composure — where richness is balanced by lift, and power by restraint.
This is fully mature on release. It requires no further ageing and will remain stable once opened for extended periods.
Tasting Notes
Deep amber with green-tinged reflections at the rim, signalling its great age. The nose is intensely complex yet finely detailed — layers of dried fig, walnut and medjool date, lifted by orange peel, antique wood and subtle spice.
On the palate, it is seamless and poised. Silky in texture, yet vibrant, with flavours of toasted nuts, caramelised citrus and dried fruits unfolding in precise, measured layers. The acidity provides remarkable freshness, carrying the wine through to an exceptionally long, elegant finish.
This is a contemplative Port — built for slow appreciation rather than simple indulgence.
For the Collector
- 18 bottles released globally (2026)
- Entire allocation secured exclusively by us
- Over 60 years in cask prior to bottling
- From the world’s oldest Port house (est. 1638)
- A true connoisseur’s Colheita – not replaceable
Serving & Pairing
Best enjoyed lightly chilled (12–14°C), either on its own or with understated accompaniments that allow its complexity to shine. Pairs beautifully with walnut-based desserts, aged hard cheeses, or simply as a standalone after-dinner wine.
A Bottle Beyond Occasion
While this wine can mark a 1961 anniversary or milestone, its true appeal lies beyond gifting. It is a bottle for those who understand and value the nuances of long cask ageing — a wine to be opened with intent, shared selectively, and remembered.
Summary
The Kopke 1961 Colheita is an exceptionally rare and refined expression of extended cask ageing, released in microscopic quantities and now fully controlled by us. For collectors and connoisseurs, it represents a fleeting opportunity to acquire something genuinely irreplaceable.
