Description
The 1976 Kopke Colheita Port is a benchmark single-harvest tawny from Portugal’s oldest Port house, showcasing decades of gentle cask ageing and graceful complexity. Already in prime drinking form, it delivers depth, finesse and remarkable length. Enjoy now and over the coming years.
Tasting Notes:
Mahogany-amber with a lifted bouquet of orange zest, dried fig and date, walnut and almond brittle, brûléed sugar and a hint of polished wood and cinnamon. The palate is silk-textured and beautifully poised: caramel, marmalade and toffee unfold in layers, balanced by bright, citrus-lined acidity that keeps the sweetness in check. Long, nutty finish with echoes of candied orange and cocoa nib.
Serving Tips & Storage Serve lightly chilled at 12–14 °C. Decanting is usually unnecessary (do so only if light sediment is present). Pair with almond tart, crème brûlée, pastéis de nata, dried fruits and nuts, or hard cheeses; also lovely as a contemplative after-dinner glass. Once opened, keep well stoppered in the fridge and enjoy over several weeks. Store unopened bottles upright in a cool, dark place.
Kopke, founded in 1638, is renowned for its mastery of cask-aged Tawnies and Colheitas. With fruit sourced from prime Douro vineyards and long maturation in seasoned oak, Kopke’s style marries purity, freshness and layered complexity—hallmarks that have made its single-harvest Ports some of the most sought-after in the category.
Colheita Port Storage and Serving Advice:
Colheita Port should be stored in a cool and dry place, sheltered from light and temperature fluctuations, and the bottle should remain in an upright position. If stored correctly, Colheita Ports will keep for decades in the bottle. Over time, it is natural that a little sediment will form at the bottom of a bottle of colheita Port wine. Once opened colheita Port should be stored in a fridge and should be consumed within 3 months. Colheita Ports do not require decanting and are best served at a temperature between 14 and 16°C.
