Description
Krohn, 1958 Vintage Port
Vintage & Background
The 1958 vintage was a classic mid-century year in the Douro, producing wines of refinement and balance rather than sheer power. Wiese & Krohn, founded in 1865 and renowned for its elegant, traditionally styled Ports, crafted a beautifully composed wine that has matured gracefully over more than six decades. Today, this rare Vintage Port offers a remarkable glimpse into the past and remains a superb choice for collectors and those celebrating significant anniversaries.
Appearance & Nose
Pale brick-tawny with a translucent rim, reflecting its age. The bouquet is captivating and complex, with aromas of dried fig, orange peel, and redcurrant layered with cedar, tobacco leaf, and soft spices. Hints of rose petal, caramel, and polished wood emerge as the wine opens in the glass.
Palate & Texture
Silky and ethereal on the palate, the wine unfolds gently with flavours of dried fruit, toffee, walnut, and subtle mocha. Acidity remains fresh and lively, balancing the sweetness and giving lift to the mature fruit profile. The tannins are fully resolved, and the finish is long, elegant, and beautifully poised, with lingering notes of spice, citrus peel, and fine old wood.
Serving & Cellaring
Decant carefully to remove sediment and allow around an hour for the wine to open. Fully mature now and drinking beautifully, though it will hold gracefully for years if well stored.
