Gaja, 2017 Alteni di Brassica, Langhe Sauvignon Blanc

A benchmark Italian Sauvignon Blanc, Alteni di Brassica is one of Angelo Gaja’s most celebrated wines, combining aromatic precision with depth, texture and remarkable ageing potential.

    Tasting Note
The nose is expressive and complex, showing aromas of citrus peel, gooseberry and white peach, layered with notes of fresh herbs, elderflower and a subtle flinty edge. On the palate, the wine is concentrated yet refined, with bright acidity carrying flavours of ripe citrus, stone fruit and gentle smoky minerality. A finely textured mouthfeel and superb balance lead to a long, poised and persistent finish.

    Food Pairing
An excellent match for grilled fish, shellfish, asparagus, goat’s cheese and light poultry dishes. Its structure also works beautifully with more refined vegetable-led cuisine.

    Serving & Cellaring
Serve at 10–12°C. Decanting is optional but can help open the aromatics when young. Drinking well now, and capable of ageing gracefully for 10–15 years.

    Why We Love It
Alteni di Brassica shows just how serious Sauvignon Blanc can be — layered, elegant and long-lived. A white wine of real stature from one of Italy’s greatest producers.

The small number of bottles released contributes to the prestige of Alteni di Brassica, the Sauvignon produced by the "king of Barbaresco" Angelo Gaja, proving the company's stratospheric level of quality also in the production of white wines. Alteni di Brassica is obtained from Sauvignon grapes grown in the Serralunga area, vinified in small French oak barrels, and offers a warm golden color, typical fruity and floral aromas, an enchanting freshness and a delicate acidity. We can pamper it for a long time in our cellar, and when we decide to uncork it, it will be exciting to taste it, first in purity, and then together with fish delicacies, raw, cooked or smoked.
