Description
This 1982 Aloxe-Corton shows a medium garnet core with a brick-orange rim, retaining slightly more depth of colour than many lesser Côte de Beaune appellations of the same age. Fine sediment is expected, and the appearance suggests full maturity while still holding a gentle inner concentration typical of wines from the Corton hill in a ripe vintage.
The nose is evolved yet expressive, opening with dried cherry, redcurrant and strawberry compote. These are layered with classic tertiary notes of forest floor, sous-bois and autumn leaves, alongside leather, cedar and sweet spice. With air, hints of mushroom, tobacco leaf and a faint earthy minerality emerge, giving the wine a grounded, slightly rustic Aloxe character.
On the palate, it is medium-bodied and harmonious, with dried red fruits — cherry, cranberry and wild strawberry — supported by savoury nuances of tobacco, cedar and gentle spice. The tannins are fully resolved, fine and slightly chalky, offering structure without grip, while the acidity remains fresh enough to provide balance and lift. The wine shows more breadth than delicacy, reflecting its appellation.
The finish is smooth and moderately persistent, tapering through dried fruit, earthy undertones and soft spice. Fully mature and likely at or just beyond peak, bottle variation is to be expected. Stand upright before opening, decant carefully to remove sediment, and serve slightly cool (around 16 °C) to highlight its evolved complexity and mellow character.
