Description

This remarkable 1937 Tavidra Black Muscat is a rare fortified dessert wine from Crimea, produced from the Black Muscat (Muscat Hamburg) grape. Crafted before the upheavals of the Second World War, it represents a piece of vinous history, offering both exceptional longevity and the unmistakable aromatic richness of Muscat wines matured for more than eight decades.

Tasting Notes
Dark amber with ruby glints, this wine opens with intense aromas of dried rose petals, figs, dates, and candied orange peel, interwoven with notes of molasses, caramel, and exotic spice. On the palate, it is opulent and sweet yet still vibrant, with layers of raisins, honey, roasted nuts, and herbal undertones. The finish is endlessly long, carrying floral Muscat perfume alongside aged complexity and rancio depth.

Serving and Food Pairing
Serve slightly chilled (12–14°C) in small dessert wine glasses. A true collector’s wine, it can be savoured on its own as a meditation drink, or paired with dried fruits, baklava, rich chocolate desserts, or a mature blue cheese. Its intensity makes it ideal for slow appreciation after a fine meal.

Winemaking
Produced from Black Muscat grapes grown in the Tavidra region of Crimea, this fortified wine was made in the traditional style: hand-harvested grapes, fermented to partial dryness, then fortified with grape spirit to capture natural sweetness. Long maturation in oak casks in cool underground cellars has created the deep complexity that defines this historic vintage.

Tavidra was one of the important Crimean vineyard areas known for Muscat production, contributing wines to the great collections of the Soviet era. Bottles from the 1930s are particularly prized, representing both a golden age of Crimean winemaking and extraordinary cellar endurance.
