Description
1961 Nebbiolo – Luigi Einaudi
The 1961 vintage is regarded as one of the landmark years in Piedmont, producing wines of structure, perfume and impressive longevity. Luigi Einaudi, founded in the late 19th century and associated with the distinguished Einaudi family, has long been recognised for traditional winemaking rooted in respect for Nebbiolo’s ageing potential. This bottle offers a rare opportunity to experience mature Nebbiolo from a celebrated era of classical Piedmont production.
Tasting Notes:
Now displaying a brick-garnet hue with amber highlights at the rim, the nose is beautifully evolved and aromatic. Notes of dried cherry, rose petal and redcurrant intertwine with leather, tobacco leaf and earthy forest floor. With time in the glass, subtle hints of truffle, cedarwood and warm spice emerge. On the palate it is medium-bodied and harmonious, with finely resolved tannins and a vibrant thread of acidity that preserves freshness. Flavours of dried red fruits, savoury earth and gentle balsamic tones unfold gradually, leading to a long, elegant and contemplative finish.
Serving & Food Pairing:
Decant carefully to remove sediment and allow the wine to open slowly before serving. Best enjoyed at cellar temperature. An excellent partner to braised meats, truffle dishes, mushroom risotto or mature hard cheeses.
Summary:
A mature and characterful example of Nebbiolo from a highly regarded vintage and historic producer. The 1961 Luigi Einaudi offers the classic perfume, structure and savoury complexity that define well-aged Piedmont wines.
