Description
Nebbiolo d’Alba 1966 Marchesi di Barolo is a historic red wine from Piedmont, Italy, produced by the estate Marchesi di Barolo in the Langhe area. It is made from Nebbiolo, interpreted in a traditional mid-20th-century style, typically with long maceration, aging in large neutral oak casks, and extended bottle maturation designed to enhance aromatic complexity over decades.
Nebbiolo d’Alba from this period is generally considered a more approachable and slightly earlier-drinking expression of Nebbiolo compared to Barolo and Barbaresco, often showing softer structure but similar aromatic evolution.
Tasting Notes:
Brick-garnet color with amber and orange reflections. Dried cherry, rose petals, cranberry, leather, tobacco, and forest floor. Subtle earthy and spicy undertones with light balsamic hints.
Medium body, softened tannins, still-present acidity. Long, elegant, gently fading finish.
Serving & Food Pairing:
Serve at 16–18°C, with very gentle decanting if needed.
Pairs with braised meats, game, mushroom dishes, truffle-based recipes, polenta, and aged cheeses.
Producer:
Marchesi di Barolo is one of the most historic wineries in Piedmont, founded in the 19th century and closely linked to the development of Barolo as a world-class wine, with a long tradition of classic Nebbiolo vinification and aging.
