Description

1995 Penfolds Grange is a distinguished expression from one of Australia’s most legendary wine labels. Composed of 94% Shiraz and 6% Cabernet Sauvignon, this vintage showcases the Grange hallmark style—powerful, layered, and built to last—while offering a more restrained and structured profile than some of its more opulent counterparts. Harvested from premium vineyard sites across Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, and Magill Estate, it reflects Penfolds' commitment to multi-regional blending for complexity and balance.

Now nearing three decades of age, the 1995 Grange reveals a deep garnet core with brick-hued edges. The nose offers evolved aromas of dried blackberry, mocha, saddle leather, smoked meats, and aged balsamic. On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied, with softened tannins and a savoury core of dried dark fruits, cured tobacco, black pepper, and hints of soy and old oak. The texture is refined and harmonious, finishing long with a lingering note of spice and earth.

This vintage was considered more elegant and traditional in style compared to powerhouse vintages like 1990 or 1998. Aged for 18 months in 100% new American oak, the 1995 Grange was built for longevity, and it has matured gracefully, offering tertiary complexity and subtle nuance for those who appreciate mature Australian Shiraz at its peak. While still holding structure, it is considered fully mature and best enjoyed within the next 5–8 years.
