Description
Penfolds is one of Australia’s most iconic wineries, founded in 1844 in Adelaide by Dr. Christopher Rawson Penfold, and is renowned for producing powerful, age-worthy wines that balance rich fruit, structure, and oak; famous for labels like Penfolds Grange and its Bin series, the house style focuses on blending fruit from multiple regions to achieve consistency and complexity, helping establish Australia as a serious player in the global fine wine scene.
Appearance
Deep garnet with a ruby rim, showing a slight evolution that hints at its age while still retaining vibrancy.
Nose
Immediately expressive. Aromas of ripe blackberry, plum compote, and black cherry lead the way, layered with warm spices (clove, star anise), mocha, and a subtle earthy note. There’s also a gentle lift of dried herbs and leather beginning to emerge with maturity.
Palate
Full-bodied and generous. Juicy dark fruit dominates—blackcurrant and mulberry—balanced by savoury undertones of olive tapenade and spice. The Grenache brings brightness, Shiraz adds depth, and Mourvèdre contributes structure. Tannins are firm yet integrated, giving a smooth, rounded mouthfeel.
Finish
Long and warming, with lingering notes of spice, dark chocolate, and a touch of dried fruit. The finish shows both power and polish.
Condition
