Quevedo 1986 White Colheita Port

The Quevedo 1986 White Colheita Port is an exceptionally rare and characterful wine from the Douro Valley. Produced from traditional white grape varieties and aged in seasoned oak casks for decades, it represents one of the most intriguing and least commonly encountered styles of aged Port.

Unlike many historic Port houses that matured their wines in Vila Nova de Gaia, the Quevedo family have long aged their Colheitas at the family winery in São João da Pesqueira in the Douro Valley, where the warmer inland climate encourages a distinctive style of oxidative ageing. The result is a wine of remarkable depth, concentration and aromatic complexity.

In the glass the 1986 shows a deep amber colour with golden highlights, a clear indication of its long maturation in cask. The nose opens with expressive aromas of orange marmalade, dried apricot and toasted almonds, followed by notes of honey, caramelised citrus peel and gentle spice.

The palate is rich yet beautifully balanced. Layers of candied orange, roasted nuts and dried fruit are supported by vibrant acidity that keeps the wine fresh and elegant despite its considerable age. The texture is silky and refined, with a sweetness that is perfectly integrated.

The finish is long, complex and persistent, with lingering flavours of walnut, caramel and warm spice that gradually fade with remarkable elegance.

Bottled only in very limited quantities, the Quevedo 1986 White Colheita is a rare and fascinating example of long-aged White Port — a wine that rewards slow contemplation and showcases the patience and craftsmanship of the Quevedo family.
