Description

Quinta Das Carvalhas 2017 Vintage Port is made from a small parcel of vines over 100 years old. It proves to be very elegant, full of aromatic and floral loading. Notes of ripe black fruits overlap with floral, subtle, violet and rose fragrances, where aromas of ripe blackberries, cherries, and blueberries stand out. It has silky and juicy tannins and very balanced acidity.

Tasting Notes: Jancis Robinson

Quinta das Carvalhas is one of the most emblematic and spectacular properties in the Douro valley. Written references regarding this magnificent vineyard can be traced back to 1759. Enjoying a prominent position on the left bank of the Douro river, in Pinhão, the estate covers the entire hillside facing the Douro river and occupies part of the slopes of the right bank of the tributary Torto river. Carvalhas’ old vines, are a post-phylloxera plantation, which have reached the respectful age of a century old and represent one of the richest selection of ancient indigenous Douro varieties.

Reviews

Old vines field blend. References to the quinta date back to 1759.
Black core with black-cherry smudgy rim. Spice and black cherry on the nose and a touch of elderberry in its wild, slightly herbal darkness. For a young port, this is surprisingly juicy and succulent on the palate. Lots of dark-red fruit and a lovely freshness to counteract the alcohol. Sweet and lively and more approachable than you might expect for a baby vintage port. (JH) Jancis Robinson.com
