Description

The Quinta Das Carvalhas 2021 white wine is a blend of the indigenous varieties of the Douro Valley, Viosinho, Rabigato and Côdega de Larinho.

Tasting Notes
An elegant and expressive wine breaming with lemon and lime fruit and freshly cut apricots. On the palate its mouth-watering acidity and minerality provide a refreshing note and offer the perfect balance against the pronounced intensity of the citrus fruit. Hints of vanilla and a touch of toast develop further on the palate leading into a long lingering finish. If you are a fan of Chablis you will love this mineral example from the Douro Valley! 93/100 Points - Dia G, VWP Tasting March 2023.

Serving and Food Pairing
Best served chilled, around 8-10°C, this white wine pairs well with seafood, salads, light pasta dishes, and cheeses. It is also a good choice as an aperitif.

Winemaking
Vinification of Quinta das Carvalhas White Wine 2022: The grapes are pressed in a pneumatic press. Fermentation begins in stainless steel vats with temperature control and ends in new French oak barrels. This is followed by an 8-month ageing in the same barrels on fine lees.

Quinta das Carvalhas is one of the oldest and most iconic estates in the Douro Valley, with vineyards spread over a vast area, offering a wide range of altitudes and exposures, which contribute to the complexity of their wines. The vineyard practices traditional and modern winemaking techniques to enhance the natural qualities of the grape varieties and the terroir.

It is a clean, clear and with a bright citrus colour, fine and delicate aromas, with great intensity, hints of fruit with hints of vanilla and toast wine. Although full-bodied on the palate causes a feeling of lightness, due to the freshness of the flavours of lively acidity. Ends with a very clean and refreshing persistence.

***92+ Points- Robert Parker's Wine Advocate ***
Vibrant and fresh, this shows off some wood and a touch of spice but also considerable purity as it airs and warms. It seems relatively concentrated and vigorous, but always perfectly balanced. This should easily improve over the next couple of years. It has a pretty good shot at aging well for the rest of the decade, maybe more. If it develops well, it might yet be entitled to an uptick in score. This graceful but still substantial white is pretty fine this year. Given the attractive price point, it is hard not to give this a try.
