Description
The 2019 Quinta da Devesa Vintage Port is a distinguished expression from the Douro Valley, reflecting the estate's dedication to traditional winemaking and sustainable viticulture. Crafted from hand-harvested grapes, including 40% Touriga Nacional, 25% Touriga Franca, 10% Tinta Roriz, and 25% old vines, the wine underwent traditional foot treading in granite lagares and was aged in old wooden vats before bottling in the second year after harvest.
In the glass, it presents a deep purple hue. The nose is rich with powerful aromas of ripe red fruits, floral notes, cocoa, pepper, cassis, and iodine. On the palate, it is dense, velvety, and full-bodied, showcasing high-quality ripe tannins and well-balanced acidity. These characteristics contribute to its harmony and elegance, suggesting excellent potential for bottle aging. The finish is long, sweet, refreshing, and gourmand.
The 2019 vintage in the Douro Valley was marked by steady summer temperatures, allowing for prolonged hang times and natural ripeness, resulting in wines with extraordinary acidity levels and freshness. This vintage is anticipated to age gracefully, with prime drinking potential from 2040 onwards.
For optimal enjoyment, decant the wine and serve at 14ºC to 16ºC. It pairs splendidly with blue cheeses, walnuts, dark chocolate, and figs. Given its robust structure and complexity, this Vintage Port is a valuable addition to any collector's cellar

***92 Points - Mark Squires (eRobert Parker)***
The 2019 Vintage Port is a blend of 40% Touriga Nacional, 25% Touriga Franca and 10% Tinta Roriz, with 25% from old vines (80+ years), all aged in old balseiros (large upright barrels) for 18 months. It was bottled in May 2021, with 112 grams of residual sugar. Sexy and sensual thanks to its velvety texture, this has classic Port flavors, but it does lean a little to the soft side. With 75 minutes of decanting into a glass, it drinks decently. The fruit and flavor are gorgeous, but the structure is not quite as impressive. Still, overall, a lot of folks will find this to be a pretty Porto with a lot to offer. You can probably approach this young, but it will hold decently too. There were 3,000 bottles produced..
