The 2023 Quinta do Noval Nacional Vintage Port is a truly exceptional expression of Portugal’s winemaking heritage. Produced from a tiny, iconic plot of ungrafted vines — untouched by phylloxera and deeply rooted in Portuguese soil — this wine embodies the purest connection between vine and terroir. The term "Nacional" celebrates this unique origin, marking it as a national treasure and a symbol of pride for Portugal. Only 140 cases were produced in 2023, representing a mere 0.43% of Quinta do Noval’s total Port production, making it an extraordinary collector's item.
The 2023 vintage benefited from a warm, wet winter and an exceptionally hot, dry spring, resulting in balanced, healthy grape development. The carefully timed harvest on September 20th captured optimal ripeness and complexity. Vinified using traditional foot treading in granite lagares, this meticulous method ensures gentle extraction and preserves the intense aromatic profile, deep color, and fine tannic structure that define the Nacional style.
On the palate, this vintage dazzles with its profound aromatic complexity and depth. A field blend of classic Douro grape varieties — including Touriga Nacional, Touriga Francesa, Tinto Cão, Tinta Roriz, and Sousão — contributes to its layered character and remarkable power. The wine was aged for 18 months in large oak and chestnut casks, allowing it to develop finesse and integrate beautifully. According to Technical Director Carlos Agrellos, 2023 is one of those rare years where the wine’s exceptional quality was evident from the very start.
Intended for true connoisseurs and collectors, the Quinta do Noval Nacional Vintage Port 2023 has immense ageing potential — from 5 to over 100 years in bottle — making it both a remarkable drink now and a legacy for future generations. Serve at cellar temperature (15–17 °C) and enjoy within 48 hours once opened to experience its full grandeur. With its limited availability and legendary status, this Port offers a rare opportunity to own and savour a piece of Portugal’s vinous history.
