Description
This 1988 Recioto has evolved into a rich and complex dessert wine with a beautifully mature profile. The bouquet is deep and aromatic, showing notes of dried fig, prune, cherry compote, cocoa, and warm spice, with hints of leather and tobacco emerging from long ageing. On the palate it is luscious yet balanced, with gentle sweetness, soft tannins, and flavours of dried fruit, chocolate, and roasted nuts. The finish is long, velvety, and harmonious, reflecting the wine’s noble Veneto heritage and its graceful development over time.
Serving Suggestions
For optimal enjoyment, stand the bottle upright for 24–48 hours before serving to allow any sediment to settle. Carefully decant the wine to remove sediment, as older sweet wines can develop natural deposits. Serve slightly cool, at around 14–16 °C (57–61 °F). Pairs wonderfully with dark chocolate desserts, blue cheeses such as Gorgonzola, or enjoyed on its own as a contemplative after-dinner wine.
Note
For wines of this age, the cork may crumble when opening—this is normal and does not affect the quality of the wine. As with many mature wines, individual bottles may show some variation, reflecting their unique ageing journey. The evolved, savoury character of older wines may not appeal to every palate, but for those who appreciate the grace of time, it offers real depth and authenticity.
