Faustino I Gran Reserva Rioja 1961

The 1961 vintage is one of the most legendary in Rioja’s history, producing wines of extraordinary longevity, elegance and complexity. Faustino I Gran Reserva stands today as a true icon of mature Spanish fine wine.

In the glass, it shows a pale garnet core with pronounced amber and brick hues at the rim, reflecting its long and graceful evolution. The bouquet is intensely complex and refined, offering aromas of dried strawberry, cherry and fig, layered with notes of leather, tobacco, cedar, polished wood, spice, and subtle hints of balsamic and orange peel.

On the palate, the wine is silky, harmonious and beautifully poised. Flavours of dried red fruits, sweet spice, tea leaf and gentle earthy undertones unfold with remarkable finesse. The acidity remains vibrant, giving lift and precision to the long, elegant and persistent finish.

Food pairing: This mature Rioja pairs superbly with roast lamb, slow-cooked beef, game birds, mushroom and truffle dishes, and Iberian pork. It also works beautifully with Manchego, Comté or other mature hard cheeses, where its savoury complexity is fully expressed.
