This 2014 Marques de Murrietta Tinto Reserva Rioja red wine uses a higher proportion of new oak than their rivals, and two years minimum ageing results in a powerful but mellow style of red wine. Marques de Murrieta is one of the great names in classic Spanish red Rioja. There is rich complexity to be found here with layers of plummy, spicy fruit from grapes harvested at peak ripeness, mingled with fine, slightly smoky tannins. The complexity comes through at the end.
Pairwith steamed and grilled hake loin, prawns with their coral and truffle aroma; baked unsalted cod with onion and green peppers; grilled beef tenderloin, green asparagus and carrot purée; creamy carnaroli rice with truffles and foiemi - cuit; selection of creamy and blue cheeses, red wine compote and sour cherries.
