T
he 1945 Vecchio Salento Bianco by Ruffino is an extremely rare white wine from Salento, a region in Puglia, Italy, known for its warm climate and rich winemaking history. Given its age, this wine would have undergone significant evolution:
Colour: Deep golden amber, possibly with oxidised hues due to age.
Nose: Aromas of dried apricots, honey, almonds, and oxidative notes like hazelnut, caramel, and possibly a touch of sherry-like nuttiness.
Palate: Soft and mellow, with flavours of dried fruit, orange peel, and honeyed notes. If well-preserved, it might retain a gentle acidity that balances its richness.
Finish: Long and lingering, with warm nutty and honeyed tones, possibly a hint of spice or minerality.
